CARYN HUGHES
Caryn Hughes is a native of South Lake Tahoe and is an emerging artist here in the Basin. Caryn designed and constructed costumes as a way to finance her pursuit of a degree in Fine Art, and in turn discovered costuming as an art form of its own. Costuming combines all of the traditional elements of design including shape, line, texture, color and value. A costume becomes the foreground within the framework of the set, and each costume is a three dimensional object which must work alone, and as part of a larger composition. Concentrating on a complete composition as well as looking at the smaller components of that piece is a skill that Caryn brings to all of her artwork. Her theater experience has honed her skills in color and design, and has also inspired her to pursue her love of fine art including sculpture, ceramics, drawing and oil painting.
For Caryn, Lake Tahoe is a constant source of joy and inspiration, and she considers herself very fortunate to be here, living, working and creating art!
