GEORGENE JOHN
My paintings are greatly influenced by taking the time to observe and absorb nature before I begin to paint it. I spend as much time as possible hiking in the deserts and mountains of the Eastern Sierras. The silence, smells, winds, and spirits of the land envelop me and give me the inspiration to create. I collect bones, rocks, interesting pieces of wood and whatever else I can fit in my pack. These tangible gifts from nature become subjects for my paintings. I also document ideas for painting through photography and keeping sketchbook journals.
I enjoy working with a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastels, and charcoal. Along with my love for nature and on-location “plein air” painting, I am devoted to life drawing and am constantly challenged by the intricacies of the human form.
Maintaining studios in South Lake Tahoe and Folsom allows me many opportunities and a wealth of inspiration and beauty for my work and a great fellowship with other artists.
