Welcome to the CeleBEARtion!

Bears will be appearing all over Tahoe’s South Shore beginning late May 2006 and continuing on through September. The catch is that these bears are made of fiberglass and will be festooned in brightly colored paints, creative mosaics and other artistic mediums. “Bears by the Lake… A CeleBEARtion!” is a public art display and community fund-raiser designed to help local youth oriented organizations.

The bears of the 2006 “Bears by the Lake… A CeleBEARtion!” will fast become worthy landmarks of Lake Tahoe history as they are works of art to be treasured. The campaign will feature fifty life-size fiberglass bear forms decorated by regional and local artists for public display throughout South Shore Lake Tahoe in ‘outdoor’ galleries. The bears will stand 66” tall and weigh between 375-400 pounds. Bear sighting maps will be distributed by the LTVA, Tahoe Douglas Visitor Information Center, South Lake Tahoe Visitors Information Center and local establishments for tourists to enjoy self-guided sightseeing tours of the bears.

Following the public display, a live and online auction will take place to sell the bears in early October. Funds raised via the auctions will be distributed to pre-selected local youth charities and wildlife preservation and education organizations. A minimum bid for each bear at auction will be $2,000 with an unlimited maximum bid. LTVA anticipates this campaign to be a wildly successful fund-raiser for the region as have other similar fund-raisers in cities throughout the United States including Chicago’s Cows on Parade, Cincinnati’s Big Pig Gig and San Francisco’s Heart Extravaganza.

The event’s title sponsor is All About Tahoe Realty and Nevada Funding. Additional Bear sponsors include Aramark, Fatburger, Harrah’s and Harveys Lake Tahoe, Horizon Casino Resort, Lakeside Inn and Casino, MontBleu Casino Resort and Spa, and the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
