During the 1940's, Eddie and Nick Sahati ran Sahati's State Line Country Club. The money for the club was provided by most of their relitives. The club combined gambling and also provided top radio and Hollywood entertainment.

Eddie Sahati died of Cancer in 1952 at the age of forty-one. His brother, Nick, then leased the operation to a group of businessmen including Karl Berge, who ran the bar (Berge later owned Karl's Silver Club in Sparks).

Bill Harrah purchased George's Gateway Club, across Highway "50" from the Country Club, and after a successful couple of years was able to persuade the businessmen to give up their lease so Nick Sahati could sell the property and auto-court to Bill.

In 1958, Nick Sahati did just that, for the same $350,000 he purchased it for. Eventually, Harrah also purchased the tiny "Main Entrance" casino and also Bud Beecher's Nevada Club, allowing him to expand all the way to the actual state line. Harrah's Tahoe now sits on the site.

<groundspeak:long_description html="False">Bart's life of crime began July 1875, when he held up a Wells Fargo express stage with a double-barreled shotgun. No one was hurt, but Bart's booty was $300 in gold coin. Unlike other road agents, Black Bart was patient. He did not strike again until the following summer, when he robbed another stage near Quincy, California. It was a modest start, but the seemingly insignificant, random hold-ups were only the beginning of Black Bart's legacy. For the next eight years, Bart pulled heists from Shasta, in the north, to Fort Ross on the Sonoma coast, but he preferred to haunt the Wells Fargo stage routes throughout the Sierra Nevada gold country. He never fired a shot and always got the "box."

Charles Boles (AKA Black Bart) served about four years in San Quentin before being released on January 21, 1888. He was fifty-four years old. Boles disappeared right after a train ride to Visalia. The last time anyone saw Black Bart was February 28, 1888. In 1900, rumor has it that the old man had died while hunting game in the High Sierra. Black Bart may be gone, but his legend endures.

Is it possible that some of his loot is hidden near here?</groundspeak:long_description>

<groundspeak:long_description html="False">The earliest records of ownership of the land around the present Camp Richardson Resort and Marina are from 1875 when M.C. Gardner acquired a timber holding of several thousand acres from the U.S. Government and built a sawmill and railroad line. He paid 25 cents an acre for the land, plus $1 per acre payable over 20 years. His railroad followed the present Jameson Beach Roadway. He sold over 12,000,000 board feet of logs each year for 12 years from this location.
In 1904 Joseph Parmeter and his niece Nellie Copeland, bought the 100x400 ft. parcel that is now the Camp Richardson Marina and built the tent cabins and summerhouses on Copeland’s Grove. Nellie and her husband, the hard drinking, hard-swearing J.C. also built a saloon over the water and a dance pavilion for their summer resort and catered to “Folks weary of the city”. Such was J.C.’s devotion to the saloon that the next owner of the Grove was their bartender Ziegler, and it became “Zeigler’s Grove until the late 1930’s.
In 1967 the operation of the Resort was becoming more difficult and less profitable, and there were great pressures on the family to sell the property for condominium or commercial development. This was the period of greatest building and development in the Tahoe Basin, and the lakefront properties were extremely valuable. Ray Knisley was determined not to allow the area to be over-commercialized, and approached the USFS to take over the entire recreational area from Baldwin Beach and Taylor Creek through Camp Richardson to Pope Beach. This conversion was accomplished without a single dollar of government money and has created one of the largest and most valuable areas of recreation ever converted to public use.
Today, Camp Richardson Resort is operated under a SPECIAL USE PERMIT from the USFS. The Camp Richardson Marina is privately owned and operated in conjunction with the Resort.</groundspeak:long_description>

It is also commonly used in figurines, geocache containers and in inflatable products such as waterbeds, pool toys or jump houses.

Parrish and his wife Elizabeth built a house that included a saloon and dance floor. It was also the post office for a short time. Later the property became known as Bijou House.

In 1887, Anthony Ramsey built a hotel just west of the Bijou House called "Dashaway Hall" and was really a "happening place" during the summer months.

The property was purchased in 1902 by Charles Young and then in 1908 two of his grandsons joined the venture and purchased an additional 33 acres. The resort was named Young's Bijou Lodge.
The large dance hall that became known as Bal-Bijou fetured big-name bands for many years and is now the Long's Drug store South of this location.</groundspeak:long_description>

The lower falls are in the state park, while the upper falls are on U.S. Forest Service land across the road. You can hike (very carefully—the rocks are slippery!) to the foot of the lower falls, or begin at the Eagle Falls Trailhead on the west side of Highway 89. The best view of the other falls, the largest of which is over 75 feet high, can be seen from a footbridge that crosses Eagle Creek. A brisk uphill hike to Eagle Lake, a beautiful natural impoundment accessible from a marked trail, takes you a mile from the parking lot. Beyond the lake, the trail enters Desolation Wilderness. On weekends, the lot and most of the roadside spaces fill rapidly, so it's best to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon.</groundspeak:encoded_hints>

Located at the site of a home destroyed in the fire, the labyrinth is made up of fist-sized stones marking the edges of a path of smaller stones which winds its way to the center in 11 circuits.

The garden is the idea of Jay Newburgh, a resident of one of three houses on Pyramid Circle that survived the fire.

Newburgh said the garden is her way of giving back to a community that she has seen come together through adversity since the fire.

Newburgh bought the Lake Tahoe Boulevard property to construct the garden and estimates she and her husband Henry have spent $30,000 to $40,000 in materials for the project.

Walking a labyrinth is a form of meditation and is even seen by some as a metaphor for the human experience. While Jay hints at the underlying meanings to the design of the garden, she said she's content to let people decide for themselves.</groundspeak:long_description>
